A bit more about working with me

The rituals, the family, the language — already understood

An Indian photographer in Dubai understands the rituals, the family hierarchies, the outfit choices and the language behind every photo — so the moments feel right, not just pretty. I'm Shruti Jain, an Indian female freelance photographer based in Dubai Marina, fluent in Hindi and English, with 15+ years across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. The largest expat community in the UAE is Indian — I photograph it most weeks.

Two segments, one approach. Whether you live in Karama, Bur Dubai, JLT or Discovery Gardens and need a family photographer for Diwali, godh bharai or a child's first birthday — or you're visiting from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune or Hyderabad for a few days in Dubai — you'll get the same care, the same easy WhatsApp conversation, the same perfect-for-you attention to detail.

Why Indian families choose me

Cultural fluency first. Everything else second.

Hindi-speaking, Indian-raised

I'll direct you in Hindi or English during the shoot — gentle, fast cues in whichever language helps your family relax. Aunties and uncles settle in immediately when the direction sounds familiar.

Female photographer

Ladies-only sangeet, mehendi, godh bharai, getting-ready, baby's first bath — I can be in the room where male photographers can't. Discretion is the default.

Ritual fluency

Mehendi, haldi, sangeet, godh bharai rasams — I know which moment matters and which side of the room to stand on. You don't have to explain who's who in the family.

INR or AED, your call

Send me details and I'll come back with a quote. Happy to discuss INR equivalents at the day's rate so you don't have to do mental math.

Early edits, then the full gallery

A couple of early favourites soon after the shoot so you have something to share immediately. The full edited gallery typically follows in 1-2 weeks (depending on shoot size and edit volume).

Local in Dubai Marina

15+ years here. Permits, light, traffic, venue quirks — already figured out. If a piece of gear fails, I have a backup in the car, not back in another country.

Living in Dubai

For Indian families in Dubai

Karama, Bur Dubai, Al Barsha, Discovery Gardens, JLT, International City, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis, Marina, Downtown, Business Bay — wherever you live, I'm a short drive away.

Maternity & godh bharai

The Hindu baby shower is one of the most photographed Indian events I do in Dubai — and the one male photographers are often quietly asked to skip. Ladies-only access means I can sit on the floor with the mum-to-be, in the corner with the grandmother, in the kitchen with the mother-in-law while the rasams happen. Gentle pace, soft direction, easy conversation in Hindi so grandma stays relaxed.

Newborn, cake smash & first birthday

Newborn at home (the most common — quieter than a studio). Cake smash at 6 months and 1 year. First birthday with extended family if grandparents flew in. I bring patience for kids and an eye for the right corners of the room for natural light.

Family portraits when relatives visit

Mum visiting from Pune. Dad and his brothers in Dubai for the first time in 20 years. The cousin from Bengaluru who only comes once a year. I know that the eldest aunt gets a solo with the new baby and that the senior uncle wants the formal stand-in-line-by-height shot before anything candid. Marina at golden hour and Old Dubai's Al Fahidi are favourites for multi-generation portraits.

Diwali, Karva Chauth & festival shoots

Diyas, rangoli, your grandmother's saree, the kids in mini-kurtas, the Karva Chauth moon-sighting moment — these deserve more than iPhone snaps. Home sessions are easiest; I'll work around your puja timing.

Pre-wedding, mehendi & sangeet

Pre-wedding portraits in Marina, the desert or Old Dubai. Mehendi mornings — bridal hands close-ups, the mother-daughter moment, ladies relaxing on cushions. Sangeet nights — performances, the grandmother who didn't expect the dance, the cousins' choreography. WhatsApp me your dates and venue and I'll come back with a quote in INR or AED.

Maternity · Godh bharai

Indian maternity & godh bharai photography in Dubai

Maternity and godh bharai are some of my most-booked sessions for Indian families in Dubai. Female access means I can be in the room for the most intimate moments — the mum-to-be with her mother and sisters, the saree-tying, the sindoor on the bump, the blessings.

Maternity bump shoot in Dubai

The sweet spot is 28–34 weeks — the bump is fully there but you're still comfortable on your feet. Saree or a flowing dress photographs beautifully (saree drape highlights the bump perfectly). Beach at golden hour, a Dubai garden or your own living room — all great. We'll plan around your energy on the day; sit-down moments between standing frames, plenty of water in the car.

Godh bharai at home (Hindu baby shower)

The rasams — the mother-in-law tying the bangles, the saree being draped, the sindoor on the bump, the haldi-kumkum, the gifts going into the lap, the elders' blessings, the music. Female-only environment in most traditional families — male photographers are quietly asked to skip. I sit on the floor with the mum-to-be, in the corner with the grandmother, in the kitchen with the aunts while everyone gets ready. Gentle direction in Hindi keeps grandma relaxed.

Newborn & first-month at home

Newborn at home is calmer than a studio — baby sleeps in their own crib, mum can feed without rearranging, grandma can hold the baby in the room she's most comfortable in. Gentle pacing — we shoot for as long as the baby is willing, take breaks for feeds, and include the siblings and grandparents whenever they're ready. The first-month shoot is often the one parents treasure most.

"We had a great experience with Shruti Jain for our Indian-style Godh Bharai (baby shower). She beautifully captured the emotions, rituals, and candid moments with great attention to detail. Very professional, patient, and easy to work with. The photos turned out vibrant and full of life. Highly recommend her for Indian family functions and celebrations!"

Visiting from India

Visiting Dubai from India?

2–7 day visit, want a "Dubai vacation memory" shoot? I'm based in Dubai Marina — 15+ years on the ground. A couple of early edits before you fly home.

What you'll get on a Dubai vacation shoot

  • WhatsApp planning from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad — usually I reply within an hour.
  • Direction in Hindi or English during the shoot — gentle, easy cues that help everyone relax.
  • Outfit guidance for saree, lehenga, sherwani or casual Western — what looks great in Dubai's golden-hour light.
  • A couple of early edits delivered soon after the shoot so you can post on Insta from the airport.
  • Full gallery typically in 1-2 weeks (a bit longer for bigger shoots with lots of edits), delivered as a private download link.

Favourite Dubai locations for Indian families

Burj Khalifa Park (the silhouette shot every Indian family wants), Dubai Marina sunset, Atlantis The Palm, Miracle Garden (Oct–Apr — saree and lehenga photograph beautifully against the flowers), Dubai Frame, Global Village, the Lehbab desert dunes (sunset desert in Indian outfits = high-share content), JBR / Bluewaters / Ain Dubai, Old Dubai's Al Fahidi heritage village.

Booking from India — what to send me on WhatsApp

Hindi on the shoot

Why Hindi matters when the camera is on

Most Indian families who book me say the same thing on the first WhatsApp: "thank god you speak Hindi." A photoshoot is not just clicking a button — it's directing six people for an hour, in the heat, in outfits they're not used to wearing, in front of a stranger holding a camera. The language you speak in those moments is everything.

  • Direction in Hindi during the shoot — gentle, fast, no awkward pauses while you translate "tilt your chin slightly".
  • Aunts and uncles feel respected, not "managed". Grandma actually smiles for the camera.
  • Group-photo orchestration follows Indian family hierarchy — the eldest gets the centre, the new baby gets the solo with grandma, the senior uncle's family stays together in the frame.
  • You can WhatsApp me casually — "Hi Shruti, is tomorrow 6am at Marina possible?" — and I'll reply just as casually. No formal back-and-forth.
Wedding rituals

Indian wedding rituals I photograph in Dubai

I photograph the full arc of Indian weddings in Dubai — every ritual carries weight, every detail matters. Whether it's a 3-day Hindu wedding, a Muslim Nikah, or a smaller intimate ceremony, here's what each ritual looks like through my lens.

Mehendi

The henna evening — ladies-only family time, bridal hand close-ups, the mother-daughter moment, cousins on cushions.

Haldi

The turmeric ceremony — intimate family moments, smeared faces, laughter and blessings between aunts and grandparents.

Sangeet

The dance night — choreographed performances by cousins and friends, plus the spontaneous grandparents-on-the-floor moments.

Roka / Tilak / Engagement

Formal commitment ceremonies — the ring exchange, the elders' blessings, the families coming together for the first portrait.

Pre-wedding shoot

A separate dedicated session — Marina at sunset, desert dunes, Old Dubai's painted doors. See the pre-wedding page →

Baraat

The groom's procession — energy and movement, the dhol, the dancing uncles, the moment the bride's family welcomes him in.

Varmala / Jaimala

The garland exchange — the laughter when cousins lift the bride or groom, the first formal moment as a couple.

Saat Phere / Pheras

The seven sacred rounds around the fire — close-ups of the priest's hands, the bride's expression, the parents watching.

Vidaai

The bridal farewell — emotional close-ups, the father's last hug, the rice thrown over the shoulder, the car drive away.

Reception

The final celebration — the couple's grand entry, the speeches, the cake cutting, the dance floor until close.

WhatsApp me with your date and the rituals you're covering — I'll send you a full coverage plan.

Female photographer · Indian events

The female-photographer advantage

Indian women — especially in traditional families — often quietly prefer a female photographer for: maternity, godh bharai, getting-ready bridal shots, ladies' sangeet, mehendi, baby's first bath, ladies' poojan, certain ladies-only birthday events. The reasons are often unspoken but always real: comfort, modesty, privacy, the fact that the bride can sit on the floor in her getting-ready room without a stranger awkwardly hovering.

Cultural fluency leads, the female-photographer side is the second filter — together they make this combination almost unique in Dubai. See the female photographer Dubai page →

Common questions

Indian photographer Dubai · FAQs

Do you speak Hindi?
Yes — fluent Hindi and English. WhatsApp me in either language and I'll reply in the same. Most of my Indian clients prefer Hindi during the shoot — gentle direction in your own language is half the reason the photos feel relaxed.
Do you understand Indian rituals like mehendi, sangeet, godh bharai?
Yes. Mehendi: hands close-ups and family candids. Sangeet: stage performances and ladies-only access. Godh bharai: the rasams, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law moments, the floor-level family shots. I've worked with Hindu, Sikh, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi and South Indian families across Dubai — I know which moment matters.
Are you a female photographer? Can you cover ladies-only mehendi, sangeet, godh bharai?
Yes. Female-only events where male photographers can't access — sangeet, mehendi, godh bharai, getting-ready bridal shots, baby's first bath, ladies' poojan — I cover them with full discretion. This is the single most common reason traditional Indian families choose me.
I'm visiting Dubai from India for a few days. Do you do tourist photoshoots?
Yes. Indian families, couples on honeymoon, solo travellers — common spots: Burj Khalifa golden hour, Dubai Marina sunset, Atlantis, Miracle Garden, Dubai Frame, Global Village, the Lehbab desert dunes. I usually share a couple of early edits before you fly home so you have something to post immediately.
How do you charge? Can you give pricing in Indian rupees?
Tell me what you have in mind — service, dates, group size — and I'll send a quote on WhatsApp. Happy to discuss INR equivalents at the day's rate so there's no mental math.
What should I wear — saree, lehenga, sherwani or Western?
Indian outfits photograph beautifully against Dubai's golden hour, the desert and Old Dubai's painted doors. Saree and lehenga for women, sherwani or kurta for men, kids in mini-kurtas — all great choices. Western works too. WhatsApp me a photo of what you're considering and I'll tell you which will look best in the light we're shooting in.
Where do you shoot in Dubai for Indian families?
Dubai Marina, Burj Khalifa Park golden hour, JBR, Bluewaters, the Lehbab dunes, Miracle Garden, Atlantis, Bur Dubai/Al Fahidi heritage. I also do home and hotel sessions — common for newborns, godh bharai, maternity and small family pujas.
Can I include extended family — parents, in-laws, cousins?
Of course. Multi-generation portraits are some of my favourite work. The eldest gets the centre, the new baby gets the solo with grandma, the senior uncle's family stays together in the frame. Tell me how many people on WhatsApp and I'll plan locations and angles that work for the group.
How far in advance should I book?
Tourist visits: a couple of weeks is comfortable. Maternity: 4–6 weeks. Pre-wedding and bigger family events: a few months ahead during the cooler Oct–Apr season, since dates fill up. WhatsApp me your dates and I'll confirm same day.
When's the best time of year to shoot in Dubai?
October to April. The light is gentle, outdoor shoots are comfortable, and Miracle Garden is in full bloom. May through September is hot — we shift to indoor, home, golden-hour-only or early-morning options.
What's the turnaround on photos?
Turnaround depends on shoot size and how much editing is involved. For most sessions I deliver in 1-2 weeks. Bigger shoots with lots of edits take a bit longer. I'll give you a clear timeline when we book.
Will my photos stay private? Some of our events are family-only.
Absolutely. Photos go to a private link only you have. Nothing is posted to social or used in portfolio without your written consent. For ladies-only events and traditional families, this is the default — you don't have to ask.
Booking from India — what should I send you on WhatsApp?
Three things: (1) your Dubai dates, (2) what kind of shoot (family vacation, pre-wedding, godh bharai, maternity), (3) where you're staying. I'll come back with locations, timing, sample frames from past shoots and a quote — usually within an hour.
