Why mums book me

What quietly makes the difference

A few things that turn a maternity shoot you tolerate into one you frame on the wall.

A female photographer in the room

The whole shoot is just you, your bump, and another woman. Outfit changes happen in a screened space. Modesty preferences are respected from the start. I direct softly - never bark "suck it in".

Cultural fluency across rituals

Godh bharai, seemantham, valaikappu, mother-blessing, baby-shower fusion - I've shot them all. I follow the family's lead on rituals and dress respectfully myself.

Marina-based, close to JBR

My home turf is Dubai Marina, so JBR, Bluewaters, Sunset Beach and the whole western Dubai coast are familiar ground. I know the parking, the bathroom corners, the quiet shoot pockets.

5-shoot journey arc

Maternity to newborn to 1-month to 6-month to 1st birthday - the same female photographer for your whole first year. By baby's birthday, we'll know each other well.

A maternity wardrobe to borrow

Stretchy tube dresses, fabric trains for editorial frames, a couple of lehenga options for godh bharai, a partner's white-shirt option in a few sizes. Yours to borrow on shoot day - saves you the dress-shopping spiral.

Gentle pacing - no clinical vibe

Late-trimester bodies are tired. We take it slow, with breaks for sitting, water and a snack. If a pose ever feels off, we change it on the spot.

"Shruti is an amazing photographer, we booked her for our maternity photoshoot in one of the resort of Dubai. She is very punctual and came to the committed place absolutely on time. She is completely professional, calm, cool, patient and very much helping during the photoshoot. Very much helpful as she has taken us in her car to other place just for the photshoot and dropped us back, very much adjusting as she was adjusting with my 4 year old daughter all the time, Thanks you so much Shruti for the beautiful photos and as already discussed will book you again for our new born photshoot."

From bump to baby

The 5-shoot journey - maternity to first birthday

My favourite way to work with a family: same female photographer, five sessions, first year documented end-to-end.

  1. 1

    Maternity (around 28-34 weeks)

Outdoor or in-home. The bump-and-you frames - solo, with partner, with siblings. The "you'll-look-back-in-30-years" foundation shot.

  2. 2

    Newborn (within 14 days)

At your home. Sleepy, swaddled, intimate. Parent-supported posing only. Galleries prioritised so you have them in the newborn fog.

  3. 3

    1-month milestone

First smiles, family-of-three frames, the "we-survived-the-first-month" portraits.

  4. 4

    6-month sit-up

Baby holding their own, milk-belly stage, the first big personality shots.

  5. 5

    1st birthday + cake smash

The first big celebration. Cake on face, frosting in hair, tears optional. Studio or at-home.

Why families book the whole journey: the same trusted female photographer for your child's whole first year, each shoot building on the last because I already know your story.

  2. Style guide arrives. Outfit ideas matched to your trimester and the location we picked. Borrow-wardrobe options if you'd like.
  3. Shoot day, around 75-90 min. I'll direct every pose - you don't need to know what to do with your hands. Breaks, water, snacks built in.
  4. Edited preview soon after. Then your full high-resolution gallery, with a download link to keep. Same-evening teasers on request.

When in pregnancy

Best week to shoot: 24w, 28w, 32w, 36w or late?

For most mums the sweet spot is around 28 to 34 weeks. Here's the longer answer in one table.

Week Body stage Best for Where to shoot
24-28w Bump visible but small Petite frames; longer outdoor walks fine Outdoor: beach, garden, downtown park
28-32w Bump prominent; mobility good Sweet spot - the most-shot window Anywhere: outdoor, studio, at-home
32-34w Bump fully there; some swelling possible Still ideal; wear comfy shoes Outdoor afternoon (not midday) or at-home
34-37w Heavy; tiring; possible swelling Shorter session, closer-to-home location, more sitting At-home preferred, brief outdoor possible
37w+ Anytime now At-home only, sitting, breaks every 15 min Strictly at home

If you're past 37 weeks, I'll still photograph - just at-home, sitting, with breaks. And if your shoot date gets bumped because baby came early, we shift to a newborn-at-home session in the first 14 days.

Studio vs outdoor vs at-home

Which type of maternity session is right for you?

All three work in Dubai. The right pick depends on the season, your trimester, and how private you want it.

  Outdoor Studio At-Home
Best for Classic golden-hour cinematic look Heat of summer, doctor's restrictions, clean editorial vibe Late third trimester, modesty preference, intimate family vibe
Best season October to April Year-round Year-round
Time of day 1 hour before sunset Any Soft morning or late afternoon
Locations JBR, Marina, Sunset Beach, Madinat, Miracle Garden, dunes, Old Dubai My space or partner studio in Marina/JBR Your home, your nursery
Outfit changes 1-2 (limited bathroom access) 2-3 (full changing room) 2-3 (your wardrobe)
Privacy Public space, but no one really notices Fully private Fully private
Recommended weeks 28-34 28-37 30-37+

Mums-to-be ask

Frequently asked questions

The most-asked questions from Dubai mums. Don't see yours? Ask me directly on WhatsApp.

When in pregnancy is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?
For most mums the sweet spot is around 28 to 34 weeks - your bump is clearly visible but you still feel mobile, slept-OK and your feet aren't swollen. Petite frames look beautiful from 24 to 28 weeks; later bookings (35 weeks plus) are absolutely possible and I'll keep the session shorter and closer to home. After 37 weeks we shoot at home, sitting, with breaks every fifteen minutes.
What should I wear for my maternity shoot?
Soft solids in dusty rose, sage green, cream, terracotta, navy or soft white photograph beautifully in Dubai light. Flowing fabrics over stiff structured pieces; one statement piece (a coloured robe, a tulle skirt, a lehenga) lifts the whole shoot. I keep a small maternity wardrobe you can borrow on shoot day - stretchy tube dresses, fabric trains for editorial frames, a couple of lehenga options for godh bharai shoots, and a partner's white-shirt option in a few sizes.
Outdoor or studio - which type of maternity session is right for me?
Outdoor wins most of the time between October and April - golden hour at JBR, Sunset Beach, Marina or Madinat is hard to beat. Studio is the right pick during Dubai summer (May to September) when outdoor heat is too much, when your doctor has restricted outdoor time, or when you want a clean editorial vibe. At-home sits between - intimate, controlled, and the easiest for late third-trimester mums. See the comparison table above for the full breakdown.
Can my partner and older kids join the shoot?
Yes - and most mums include them. Partners come for the full session about 80% of the time. Older kids (toddlers and up) come for the first 30 to 40 minutes, when their patience is highest, then we let them go play. I'm pretty good with the wiggly ones - usually know how to get a tantrumy four-year-old to sit still and laugh on cue.
What about godh bharai or a baby shower shoot?
Yes - I've photographed dozens of godh bharai, seemantham, valaikappu, mother-blessing ceremonies and Western-style baby showers for Indian, Pakistani, Filipina and Arab families in Dubai. I dress respectfully myself for traditional events and try to catch the candid moments around the rituals - the laughter, the fussing-over-the-bump, the elders blessing - just as much as the staged frames. Bring your in-laws, your sisters, your mum if she's flown in.
When can we shoot the newborn?
Within the first 14 days of birth - that's when babies sleep deepest, curl easily and have those soft folds that disappear by week three. We shoot at your home where baby's calmer, your nap schedule wins, and the photos look like real life. Many mums book maternity and newborn together as a bundle so they don't have to find a new photographer who doesn't know their story.
Do you have a maternity wardrobe to borrow?
Yes - a small, well-curated maternity wardrobe to save you the dress-shopping spiral. Stretchy tube dresses (sized to grow with your bump), long fabric trains for editorial frames, a couple of lehenga options for godh bharai shoots, and a partner's white-shirt option in a few sizes. All clean, all yours to borrow on shoot day. Tell me your favourite colours when you book.
I prefer modesty - is that OK? Can we shoot somewhere private?
Of course. At-home sessions are popular for mums who prefer privacy - I bring my own light, soft fabric backdrops, and a few wardrobe options so you don't have to step outside. Studio sessions are equally private. Outdoor at JBR, Marina or Sunset Beach is also more discreet than people think; flowing fabrics drape modestly and the locations are wide enough that other beachgoers don't really notice. You set the comfort level - we'll match it.
How long is a maternity session?
Outdoor sessions run around 75 to 90 minutes including outfit changes. Studio runs 60 to 90 minutes. At-home is the gentlest at 60 to 75 minutes. Late-third-trimester sessions (after 36 weeks) are deliberately shorter and we build in breaks every 15 minutes for sitting, water and a snack.
Will I be uncomfortable lying down at 32 or 34 weeks?
Almost never - because we don't lie you flat on your back. Standard maternity poses use side-lying, gentle reclining on cushions, sitting and standing. If a pose ever feels off, we change it instantly. I've shot mums up to 39 weeks, so the third-trimester body is familiar territory.
How fast do I receive my photos?
Turnaround depends on shoot size and how much editing is involved. For most sessions I deliver in 1-2 weeks. Bigger shoots with lots of edits take a bit longer. I'll give you a clear timeline when we book. Newborn galleries are prioritised so you have them while you're still in the newborn fog. Same-evening teaser images possible on request for gender reveals and time-sensitive announcements.
How many outfits should I bring?
One to three outfits is the sweet spot for a 90-minute session. One soft flowing piece (dress or robe), one bump-hugging piece (tube dress or fitted top) and optionally one statement piece (lehenga, coloured robe). More than three usually means we run out of time. Borrow-wardrobe options available if you'd rather not buy.
How do you charge for a maternity shoot in Dubai?
Pricing depends on session length, location (outdoor, at-home or studio), whether you're bundling maternity with newborn or first birthday, and how many photos you'd like. Tell me what you have in mind and I'll send a quote on WhatsApp - your trimester, where you'd like to shoot, who's joining - message me for a quote.
Do you offer a maternity to first-birthday journey package?
Yes - the 5-shoot journey package runs maternity to newborn to 1-month to 6-month to 1st birthday, with the same female photographer documenting your child's first year. Every shoot feels like an extension of the last because I already know your story. Ask about the journey package.
Can my mum (who flew in for the godh bharai) join?
Of course. Family is welcome on every session; most godh bharai and family shoots include in-laws, elders and visiting parents. Tell me who's joining when you book so I can plan the family frames into the schedule.

A bit more about working with me

You'll look back at these photos in 30 years and remember exactly how loved you felt.

This season passes faster than anyone tells you. The bump that feels enormous today is gone in a few weeks, and what stays is the way you carried it - the soft hand resting at the side, the look your partner gave you across the room, the way your toddler reached up to kiss the bump because they were finally going to be a big sister. My job is to catch those moments while you're still in them.

You don't need to know how to pose. You don't need to be a "photo person". You don't need to have lost the bump (please don't try). You just need to show up - in whatever you feel comfortable in - and let a female photographer who's been doing this for years quietly direct you while you breathe, look at your partner, hold your bump and forget the camera is there. By minute ten you'll wonder why you were nervous. By delivery day, you'll be ordering prints.
